FORT LIBERTY — The Marines aren’t in town for their semi-annual field artillery exercise known as Operation Rolling Thunder, but Fort Liberty’s own artillery units are sounding off this month, an announcement issued Thursday stated.

The 82nd Airborne Division and 18th Field Artillery Brigade will continue their scheduled field artillery live exercise until Feb. 9, the announcement stated.

Requirements prohibit firing multiple large weapons between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily and 10 a.m. to noon Sundays.

“Fort Liberty trains the most elite airborne and special operations soldiers in the world,” the announcement stated. “This vital training provides our national leaders the ability to send troops worldwide within 18 hour of notification.”

In Thursday’s announcement, officials asked for those who have a “real issue," compared to irritation with the noise, to fill out a questionnaire.

“We will use this information to inform our training decisions and try to impact less people with less noise while we effectively train our soldiers to be ready for the next fight,” the announcement stated.

The questionnaire can be filled out online at  https://home.army.mil/liberty/noise-abatement.
