NC State basketball has added a pair of in-state players to its 2024 recruiting class, Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts announced Tuesday.

Fayetteville native Trey Parker and Rockingham’s Paul McNeil Jr. have officially signed national letter of intents to join NC State ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Parker and McNeil are the first in-state duo to join the Wolfpack since Terquavion Smith and Breon Pass in 2021. Greg Gantt, Manny Bates and Dennis Smith Jr. are the most recent Fayetteville natives to play at NC State.

The 6-foot-2 Parker, whose social media handles are @showtimetreyy, is known for elite athleticism, viral dunks and a smooth shooting stroke. He has more than 523,000 Instagram followers and is ranked No. 105 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

“I think Trey is just scratching the surface of what he can become. He is an explosive athlete and probably one of the most entertaining high school basketball players out there, but there is a lot more to his game than just flash,” NC State coach Kevin Keatts said in a school-issued statement.

“He understands the game, and he’s equally able to play with or without the ball. He has deep range on his jump shot, but is also shifty enough to create offensive opportunities for himself and others. He is coachable and will put the work in to get better, and I’m excited to get him in our program.”

Parker originally planned to join the Wolfpack ahead of this season but ultimately decided to spend a second year with Overtime Elite in Atlanta. He averaged 12.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game last season.

During his time in Fayetteville, Parker played at Cape Fear High School and New Life Christian Academy. In the 2019-20 season, Parker averaged 16.2 points and helped the Colts earn their first NCHSAA playoff win in 15 years.

Richmond Senior’s Paul McNeil could ‘flourish’ with NC State basketball

Paul McNeil Jr., a rising sophomore at Richmond Senior, has a chance to be one of the top players in the Class of 2024.

Paul McNeil Jr., a 6-foot-6 wing out of Richmond Senior High School, was the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year as a sophomore for the Raiders.

Ranked at No. 58 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, McNeil averaged 24 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game last season. He led Richmond Senior to its first state championship appearance since 1997.

“I’m really excited to have Paul join our program. It’s always great to keep great local players from our state,” Keatts said.

“He’s a young man that we targeted the second we could start recruiting him. He fits our program. He’s athletic, highly skilled and a knock down shooter. I think he is going to flourish in our system. Off the floor, he’s a wonderful young man who is a great addition to our locker room.”
