Weather Permitting: Pollen-clearing soaking on Friday, followed by a gloomy Saturday.
If, like me, you've reached the "Why bother?" level of pollen cleaning, you're in luck.
Friday night and Saturday morning should clear the air -- and the car, and the front porch and -- heck, everything that's been colored a grimy yellow over the past week.
Nature's car wash will be open for business as a storm system passes through the Cape Fear region this weekend. It will leave us a bit cooler, but at least able to breathe for a few days.
Here's the setup: After a mild Wednesday, the Cape Fear region is cooler today as high pressure holds sway through Friday. Fayetteville will remain dry with highs in the mid-60s both days.
Clouds will increase Friday as a low pressure system develops to our southwest and moves towards the Carolinas. Ahead of the system, winds will swing around to the east, getting stronger through the afternoon. Clouds will increase as well, as some spots south of Fayetteville will likely see spotty showers before sunset.
Rain chances increase in the evening, with everyone getting wet overnight. There's no indication of severe weather, just a round of pollen-easing precipitation. The Cape Fear region should see better than an inch of rain as this system moves through.
The weekend: Light rain continues on and off through Saturday with a stiff northerly flow adding to the overall gloom. Look for a high in the mid-60s for Fayetteville. Clouds and light showers should taper off in the late afternoon, but the north wind will continue into the night.
Unlike the last cold front, this one hasn't tapped into strong Canadian cold, so freezing or frost won't be a concern. But Sunday morning will be chilly, maybe 40 or so in Fayetteville. Highs may not get out of the upper 50s.
Down the road: A seasonal stretch of weather returns to the region. Look for highs in the mid- to upper 60s through mid-week, with lows climbing through the 40s toward 50. Later in the week, there's a chance for more rain as a weak trough develops and moves east. We'll have to see how things develop.
Keep an umbrella handy Saturday and enjoy the free car wash.
