FROM THE ARCHIVES: Along Fayetteville's Raeford Road over the years

This 1900 "Holsman" stopped in Fayetteville to get gas on it's way north sometime during the 1930's. Keith George who submitted the photo is standing to the right and George Deese is at the left. George said the old man driving the car had come all the way from the west coast. The station where he stopped was on Raeford Road just beyond the Robeson St. intersection.

Chavis, the manager at The Car Exchange located at that intersection, said he decided to start directing traffic after he looked out the window and saw traffic backed up. "Nobody was yielding," he said.
