A man riding a lawnmower on N.C. 87 in Grays Creek was critically injured after being struck from behind by an SUV on Tuesday night, according to the State Highway Patrol.
Trooper W. Stewart said that at 10:31 p.m. the 42-year-old man was southbound on a John Deere mower between Butler Nursery and Scallywag roads when he was struck by a Buick SUV driven by a Fayetteville woman going the speed limit of 55 mph.
Stewart declined to release the names of the individuals.
The mower and vehicle both traveled 300 feet from the point of impact, and the man riding the mower was ejected from his seat, Stewart said. The mower did not have any lights.
