Sally McArthur Nantz was a dedicated, caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2024.

Born on February 17, 1934 to the late Dan & Katherine McArthur, she was raised in Wakulla, NC. She graduated from Red Springs High School as a scholar athlete. While attending Catawba College, she met and married the love of her life, Glenn Rodney Nantz.

Sally continued her education earning her masters degree from UNC Capel Hill, NC.

Sally spent several years in Fort Worth, TX while Rod was stationed there in the U.S. Air Force. In 1963, they moved their family to Lumberton, NC. She began teaching at Vardell Hall Women’s College in Red Springs, NC and worked for her husband’s practice.

Beyond her professional achievements, Sally was an active member at First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed making pottery, quilting, needle point, and travel.

Along with her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Tedder and Ruth McArthur, and her beloved husband, Rod, with whom she shared her life for 70 years.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Jane Fowler (Jack), Renee Carroll, and Glenn Nantz (Cherie); her grandchildren: Tripp Carroll (Sarah), Jessica Fowler Cush (John), Katherine Carroll Elich (LC), Rodney Nantz, and William Nantz; her great-grandchildren: Daniel Carroll, Dalon Carroll, Elizabeth Elich, Lee Elich, and McKenzie Cush; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Nicole Jones, Wanda Chavis, Deborah Jacobs, and Liberty Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of their mother.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 1002 N. Chestnut Street in Lumberton, NC.
